The British Hairdressing Awards 2017

by Elicia McManus
It’s nearly time for one of our favourite award ceremonies of the year, the British Hairdressing Awards. The awards recognise and celebrate the very best in the country across a range of categories, so we thought we would give you a little run down on the awards, and some of the fabulous finalists.

The Awards

Formally known as HJ's British Hairdressing Awards, the awards were launched way back in 1985 by Hairdressers Journal International with sponsorship from Schwarzkopf Professional. To this day, the awards continue to recognise the most creative and boundary pushing talent in the UK. The hairdressing world can be very competitive and there is no other award that is more coveted than one from Hairdressers Journal.

The awards are quite unique as they are judged on a set of photographs that each entrant must submit. It’s entirely possible for a small, unrecognised salon or individual to become famous overnight, at least in the hairdressing world, as the photos are judged by a totally impartial, yet credible panel of judges.

Months of hard work and planning go into the entries, and it all ends in a ceremony on November 27th, at the swish Grosvenor House Hotel, Mayfair. In addition to overall British Hairdresser of the Year award, there are fifteen other categories hairdressers can choose to enter – including nine regional categories and six specialist categories that recognise specific areas, such as afro, men’s, and colour.
