How To Excercise With Hair Extensions

by Faye Evans
You’ve probably heard the myth; “You can’t tie your hair up or exercise with hair extensions.” Well luckily, that’s completely not true! Here at Spectrum One, we’re not taking our hair extensions out for anyone or anything and that includes working out. So whether you're a yoga girl, HIIT class fanatic or daily gym lover, you can still wear your gorgeous Spectrum One Hair Extensions to your favourite classes as long as you follow our three top tips:
.
  1. Choose an appropriate hair extension method
  2. Ensure that you protect your hair extensions during exercise
  3. Maintain correct aftercare after your exercise session

Choose An Appropriate Hair Extension Method

You may have already thought about this when wanting to ensure that you pick the correct hair extensions to match your active lifestyle. For the most part, people will want to tie their hair up and out of the way during exercise and so this means that you will need flexible, discreet and flat hair extensions.
.
We suggest Tape hair extensions or Nano / I-Tip hair extensions for this. Tapes are great as they lie completely flat to your head, so you can be sure that no lumps and bumps will ruin your sleek hairstyle.
.
Our Nano hair extensions allow for 360° flexibility because of their silicone tip. This means you can put your hair in any style you wish without having to fret about your hair extensions being on show or struggle putting them in a certain direction to tie them up.
.

Ensure You Protect Your Hair Extensions During Exercise

No matter what form of exercise you are doing, you need to have your hair extensions out of the way and in a protective hairstyle. We suggest that you braid your hair as this will help your hair from tangling up. Ensure the braid isn’t too tight as this will pull on your hair extensions and cause discomfort as well as potential damage to the hair. Also, wearing a headband during intensive training will help keep any hair away from sweat and makeup- plus it's a cute accessory.

Maintain Correct Aftercare After Your Exercise Session

After you're done with your exercise session, your hair may not only feel in desperate need of a wash but also a hydrating treatment. So before you jump in the shower, you need to detangle those locks! Using a soft bristle brush such as our best selling Spectrum One All-Rounder, or a Tangle Teaser to brush through your hair.
.
Brushing from the ends of your hair and working your way up before showering will save you a huge job after and will also ensure you thoroughly wash your hair.
Then, using a hair extension-appropriate shampoo and conditioner wash your hair immediately after exercise to prevent the sweat and oil build-up from breaking down the glue in your Tapes or keratin in your Nano or I-Tip bonds.
.
If you're after a good hydrating treatment, we recommend our favourite INNOluxe saved range. We can't get enough of it here, it’s fab!
